We collect as little as we can get away with. Here is the whole story.

What we collect

The content you submit (your display name, message, and any monument-specific fields), and your email address from PayPal checkout so you receive a receipt and we can contact you about your entry.

Payments

Payments are handled by PayPal. We never see or store your full payment credentials. PayPal's handling of your data is governed by their privacy policy.

What is public

Your display name, message, and monument-specific fields become publicly visible once your entry is published (immediately after payment for Internet Guestbook 2026, or after review for other monuments). Your email address is never shown publicly.

Waitlist

If you join the waitlist, we store your email address and which monument (if any) you asked about. We use this only to notify you about launches or when checkout opens. Our team may receive an internal alert (e.g. via Telegram) when someone new joins — that alert includes your email and is not published. You can ask us to remove your email by emailing hello@internetmonuments.com.

Cookies

We use a cookie consent banner so you can choose which optional cookies we set. Strictly necessary cookies (theme preference, your consent record, admin login if applicable) are always active.

Analytics & behavior (optional):If you accept this category, we load Google Analytics 4 (measurement id configured in our environment). GA may collect page views, navigation paths, device/browser type, approximate location (from IP), engagement events such as scroll and time on page, and other standard usage metrics. We use this in aggregated form to understand how people find monuments and complete purchases. Google's privacy policy applies to how they process that data: policies.google.com/privacy. You can withdraw consent anytime via Cookie settings in the footer.

Marketing: We do not set advertising or remarketing cookies today.

What we don't do

We don't sell your personal data. We don't collect analytics data until you opt in (the Google Analytics script may load, but no measurement is stored until you accept analytics cookies). We don't run third-party ad networks on this site.

Your choices

You can ask us to remove your entry or delete your associated data by emailing hello@internetmonuments.com. Some records may be retained as required for legal or accounting purposes. Use the cookie banner or footer link to change tracking preferences.
